The Roadmap for Communication

Everyone at the offices is getting back to health which is  a good thing.  We almost ran out of tissues here in east TN.  I wish you good health and stay away from those people who are coughing.  This flu bug bites back.

To all our friends throughout the world, springtime is showing up in the Great Smokey Mountains.  With all our traveling with training and speaking, we’ve been going past this one patch of ground at the airport. All the traveling we are doing for training and speaking has brought us pass a beautiful patch of green on our way to the Tri-Cities Airport here in TN. We have a tiny airport in the Tri-Cities, but we do have jets.  Spring is here... not officially but we are seeing the  green of spring come through the ground and  daffodils are blooming.  Hope is eternal.  I think the groundhog was right.

’s March theme is about communication.  When we are asked to come into an organization to help them improve productivity or performance, one of the first comments made by the client is “we need better communication around here”.

I find it fascinating that an organization tied together by a group of people working toward the same goal of producing a product or service would need help with communication. They already produce a service or product and many times are very successful. Communication is the fundamental skill that each employee needs and wants, at the very least.

Communication is much more than talking.  It takes in the culture of the organization, the strategy of the business, the training and experience of the employees, the industry, and the location.  A company in Nashville, TN manufacturing high tech equipment does not communicate the same way as an organization from Los Angeles consulting in market branding for the movie industry.  Not by a long shot.  However, one assumes that communication comes in a package that can be opened and applied to a group of people in a place called  business.

The exciting part of communication is that it can be predictable if authored and designed well.  The downfall of an organization with no communication plan is that it is not exciting -   it can be downright frustrating and unproductive.

The structure of communication is simple, but the application of a communication is not.  Where does it get lost between sample and application of a plan?

There are rules to communicating effectively:
  • Setting context so the information is clear.
  • Creating clarity so all those communicated with are included in how information is presented.
  • Making sure the who, what, why, when and how is depicted in a way that misinformation is eliminated.
  • Designing the communication and/or message so the audience is respected, informed and educated.

If you want to communicate easily and simply, it behooves you to find out the best way to communicate with the audience and/or employees. A key question to your people can be: How would you like to communicate?

Communicating well and with value is a terrific place from which to begin to communicate superbly.  Once you know what people value, how they want to be communicated with, you have carte blanch to begin communicating in a very elegant and clear way.  Here is way to help you.  Got to http://www.NatalieManor.som/shop, scroll down and click on 's Communication CD.
