Your
ROADMAP(sm)
for Coaching
I’ve
enjoyed the feedback from my newsletter
article last week on coaching.
Some of you shared your stories with me
about how coaching has changed the
direction and/or the impact of your
leadership.
Support. Change. Feedback.
Resources. Honesty. Real
time information when you need it.
This is the whole point of coaching.
Coaching was once viewed by many as a
tool to help correct underperformance.
I will share with you, however, that our
coaching here at NMA is more widely used
for the top performers.
Quoting from the Right Management Survey
Group in Philadelphia, 86% of the
companies surveyed said that they
"...used coaching to sharpen the skills
of individuals who have been identified
as future organizational leaders."
When I
first started coaching in 1993, people
would ask what type of "team" I coached.
Today, executive coaching has evolved
into the mainstream of business.
My fellow executive coaches and I are in
demand to coach executive, as well as,
emerging leaders based on the following
needs:
-
The demand for immediate
results
-
Providing real time guidance
and feedback
-
Developing leaders in the
context of their current
jobs without removing them
from their day-to-day
responsibilities
We
continually run into executives and
leaders that are NOT receiving
development feedback. As it
becomes increasingly important for
executives and leaders to change and
grow with the pace of business receiving
development feedback is infrequent and
unreliable. Also, executives and
leaders may tend to plateau in critical
interpersonal and leadership skills as
they are forced to work outside their
zone of knowledge and/or expertise.
What does
this all mean? Many times as you
grow in “rank” as a leader, you receive
little or no new feedback on how to lead
well. Without this type of feedback you
may begin to believe that you are
finished learning and/or that how you
are operating and leading is really
quite grand.
All humans need feedback and
support...especially leaders. The
bar is continually raised on the skills
you are expected to be thoroughly adept
at by your team, organization and
industry. Yet how often do you go
to training or receive a "real"
performance review.
Coaching
helps you get centered, grounded and
continually hone your skills.
Leaders have lots to do. The fire in
your belly has not gone away, but has
been replaced with wisdom and expertise.
No superb athlete is ever without their
coach.
As a coach, I see things that you do not
and I can bring you that information in
a way that is understandable and
valuable. We can also have conversations
together that you may not be willing to
share with anyone else.
It is a privilege to be a coach for the
21st Century leaders just like you.
Life is good.
My best,
Natalie
P.S.
