Note from Natalie: Speaking Success in a Cold Northern PlaceMy love and blessings, NatalieWhat a week I had last week! I love traveling, however it is always great to be back in my little house in Tennessee. You may think, "So where was she last week?" I'll tell you...I was in my old stomping ground (New Hampshire). I had the distinct honor of being asked to speak to an amazing audience about Presentation Skills and Public Speaking for the third year in a row. Attending this conference were over 300 eager new presidents of an international service organization. We had so much fun and they laughed in all the right places. I spoke to these dedicated presidents about the skills they would need and use most while:
· Speaking to groups · Dealing with the media · Helping their members be effective · Creating effectiveness and clarity with their work and global messageIt is a thrill to watch your audience “get it". And this audience of new presidents truly got it around the success skills that will help them be a better speaker and presenter. You discover how great people are when they want to be successful. You help them create a mindset so they can take action and create successful results. It was my honor and privilege to spend time with such a wonderful group of talented and committed leaders.
The terrific experience of educating this group about the most influential skills you need in order to get your message across to your audience, staff or meeting got me to thinking. What about a little reminder for all of us of the tips, techniques and strategies that help us be successful when giving a presentation and in public speaking? The Top Ten (10) Tips for Successful Speaking and Presenting is the featured article this week. It is reminder of what really works when we speak and present. Remember, all speaking is public speaking.
The Roadmap Top Ten (10) Tips for Successful Speaking and Presenting are the keys you need to help you increase your effectiveness and your ability to influence the outcome of your speaking. These tips will help with sales situations and negotiating too.
It is my pleasure to be a resource to you in designing your roadmap for a successful and extraordinary life.

*******************************************************************************************Feature Article: The Roadmap Top Ten (10) Tips forSuccessful Speaking and Presenting47% of people are more afraid of speaking in public than they are of dying. Every professional in today’s workplace has to speak to others. A major part of your business day is spent in meetings, on the phone and in person with stakeholders, clients and staff. Effective speaking is essential.
You can use these effective and practical tips to start projecting a more confident image, increase your visibility, and expand your personal power and presence – TODAY.
1. Understand your own communication style. Analyze how well you listen, how well you communicate with others. How well do you receive information? What is your body language saying?
2. Overcome nervousness by being prepared. Determine in advance what your purpose is for seeking to communicate with another or a group. What outcome do YOU want to have happen? What information do you want them to take away from the interaction?
3. Analyze your audience. Know whom you are speaking to - be it one person or many. What is their style of communication, how effectively do they listen? What is their body language telling you about them?
4. Establish eye contact with each of your audience members. Ensure that they are following along with you. Watch for physical reactions both positive and negative. Are they relaxed, casual, intense, upset, angry?
5. Be certain that your communication is logical and sequential. Create phrases that help transition and connect your ideas. Lead your audience from one idea to the next.
6. Involve your audience in the communication process. Effective listening is part of effective communicating. Ask a question, listen and process their answer.
7. Control the flow of the communication. If someone has overtaken your “turn” to communicate your information, insert yourself back into the control position.
8. Create a powerful closing to your part in the conversation or presentation. Wrap it up and ensure that others know that you have finished speaking and have been listening to you.
9. Ask follow up questions to ensure clarity. Make conclusion statements. Monitor their behavioral reaction to your communication. Ask them in your communication with them was valuable.
10. Practice makes perfect. Seize opportunities to make a powerful impression and deliver valuable content.
