Jamming in TN!
Hang up your bathing suit and put away your beach buckets. Here we come September.
I always feel like I am supposed to be really smart in September because I am heading into the end of the year. It feels like September begins the last leg of a race that I really want to win.
Well, I am ditching that feeling right now. I am actually going to pick apples this weekend and make homemade applesauce for the first time in my life. Cut up the apples, smash them and fill clean little canning jars full of yummy food that I picked and made myself. And I just finished canning 20 jars of delicious, deep purple grape jam.
My neighbor and I spent hours picking and cleaning the grapes, cooking
them at a high heat in my kitchen, fighting with sugar, and dealing
with purple juice drips. There was some serious sweating going on
while we tried not to burn ourselves.
Thank you to my master TN canning friend and neighbor, Vaughn. He taught me how to do this thing called canning which I have wanted to do for YEARS.
It does not matter what you want to do.just do it. The reason it is has taken me years to learn to can is that, the important and successful business woman in me, did not have time. I gave up the joy of learning a skill that I've admired for years because somehow it did not rate high enough for me to take the time to learn.
Now I am dangerous. I am a canning/jamming enthusiast. At this rate - and the joy of it - everyone on our e-newsletter list just might get a jar something for the holidays.
You know the best part of this whole experience??? The day after I did my first 20 jars of grape jam, I was more relaxed and refreshed than I have been in months.
Please yourself. Relax. Deep breath. Go do what you have been waiting to do. You will be so refreshed, revived and renewed, you might even end up with some great stuff to eat.
Love and blessings,

Natalie R. Manor, CEO

Business Card Etiquette: What does your business card say about you?
Business cards are an important way to communicate with each other in today's business world. Whether it is a causal meeting on an airline flight or at a formal networking function our business card, and how we handle the interaction of presenting the card, says a lot about us professionally.
A business card can automatically provide you with a feeling of confidence and importance. It is also an indicator of who you are and what you do. It provides immediate information about your status within an organization and what the organization does. President, CEO, Executive VP, Sales Manager - each title indicates the authority and responsibility that you have. It also tells the person receiving the card who they are dealing with. It is actually truly amazing the power a little business card has in providing information.
Technically, the business card is just an extension of your business decorum. It is part of your self image, in how your represent yourself and your company. Business communication etiquette is extremely important to your success as a professional. Part of business communication etiquette is business card protocol as this is likely your first impression with that person you have chosen to give your business card to.
There is actually a correct way to distribute a business card. However, there is also a wrong way. The wrong way to distribute a business card is to pass it out to anyone and everyone. Giving out your business card is not a contest to see how many business cards you can distribute and collect. The preferred method for distributing your business card is to make sure that the person receiving it will find some value with the information is contains. When passing it to the selected person, you should present it right side up.
In the USA, continuing to talk while exchanging business cards is considered acceptable business communication etiquette. However, it is also acceptable to look over the card and ask questions about the information it contains. The title, company, location and/or products are all good conversation starters. It helps to show interest and you find out whether this person is in fact valuable to you or if you can be a resource to them.
Your business card is used for marketing and appearance. Digging around in pockets or a purse and providing a slightly worn card to someone is not good etiquette. It indicates that you are unfamiliar with business discussions and have little or no influence. The worst sin is not having a business card at all. I have gone to large conferences and networking events where people actually did not bring their cards or in fact, do not even have business cards. Always keep your business cards in a good looking case or holder.
International business card protocol is also important to learn if you are traveling. You should have your information, in your native language, on one side and in the language of the country you are visiting on the other side.
Here is an example of business card etiquette from a different region of the world. In Asia: Use two hands to give and receive cards. Place the card you receive on the tabletop until the meeting ends. Spending time reading the card, as we would do in the USA, is not considered polite. The assumption is that you would know who you are dealing before you even speak with them.
International travel and business communication etiquette go hand in hand. Do not ever think that your way of communicating with other people from other parts of the globe is the most appropriate way. If you are in doubt, ask ahead of time so you can make a good impression and the other people feel valued by you. The business card exchange is just one way of showing you acknowledge and respect how others in the world are doing business.
Exchanging business cards is very important. Your business communication etiquette is a reflection of who you are and the company you represent. It can be a deal breaker even before you have the conversation about doing business together.
At the very minimum, your business card should contain the following information:
- Your name and title
- Your company title and complete address
- How to get in touch with you including: email, website, telephone
- What your organization does
The business card is as important at that first impression as your handshake. Learn to effectively distribute your business cards and enjoy the benefits and results of all those business cards you have distributed.
