Hello Grumpy
By: Natalie R. Manor, CEO
Hello Grumpy.
Who me?
Yes, you.
What gives with the low energy, negative attitude and “bah humbug” comments?
The number one reason that you might be having a hard time right about now is that you are not taking really good care of yourself, your energy and your attitude. You don’t have much left for anyone else because you have not done much for you.
And here comes the classic question? “So Natalie, with all that I have to do in my life, add the holiday pressures and the economic news, how do you expect me to have any time at all to do anything for myself?”
My classic answer back: “If you don’t take of you, who will?”
I have to say that it is always a decision that changes everything. You have to decide that you are going to take, do, buy, share, get whatever it is for you and then do it.
How do you decide when to take your vacation? You look at the calendar, check the best dates, and then decide where to go. From that point, it is all about the vacation, when it is and what you are going to pack. You plan your activities around the date, you plan your projects so they do not impede your plans.
So what is so different about deciding that you really do need to:
- Get more sleep
- Drink some water and get hydrated so you are not always hungry
- Call the chiropractor and get those bones in alignment
- Change your eating habits because all the sugar is actually killing you
- Get on the internet and order that magazine subscription to your favorite sport/subject
- Put the community time and giving in the weekly calendar so you can get out there and share your talents
- Buy those foods that are good for you and then cook in your own kitchen (cooking good food, what a novel idea!)
- Calling that very dear person you have not gotten in touch with cause you are TOO BUSY
- Sit with your kitty or puppy – just sit and scratch their tummies - just sit still and breathe deeply
I have lots of clients that tell me that they can do well on 4-5 hours of sleep a night. Maybe in the short term during a business start up or launching a new product or service – but not in the long term. The body needs what the body needs. Just because you have trained yourself to live on 4-5 hours a night does not mean it is what you really need to operate at optimum levels.
Go sit. Really, just sit. Take some deep breaths. Three in a row. Hold each breath for 10 seconds before you blow it out. Do you know that is how we are supposed to breath? Fascinating. It is a good thing that the breathing we do is automatic or all of us would be in a heap of trouble. Just breath.
I so absolutely promise that deep breathing, just sitting with your animals (or on your couch without the TV) and doing nothing will begin to refresh, renew, revive and rejuvenate you.
“Natalie, how could habits that are so simple and easy to do begin to bring well being back into our lives?”
It always has been easy. We just have complicated our lives by our habits. So, just sit and breath. I guarantee you will benefit from your commitment to easing the stress and strain in your moments and days.
