Holiday Success Tips that Really Work
By: Natalie R. Manor, CEO
Well we are fully into the 2008
Holiday Season. I hope you are doing well.enjoying
the parts of this season that are important to you.
I've finished my gift purchases and now face my trauma
of any holiday season - wrapping. Go ahead and laugh,
but it is true.I abhore wrapping presents.
I decided to make it easy on myself this year.
I am wrapping everything in newspaper and putting a sticky bow on
top. Everyone will think I am very GREEN.
Do what is
easy and stop making yourself do the things that make
you crazy; out of sorts; preoccupied; nervous; tired
etc. It does not matter what anyone thinks, if it is
not your talent, then don't do it.
The best
example that I can give you is wrapping presents. I
hate it and am not good at it. I know many of you take
pride in your wrapping and time designing how you want
to wrap your gifts. For me it is just plain hard. This
year I am not going to even try to make the presents
beautiful, I am doing what is easy for me.
There is probably some teasing in
the wings when people open their gifts, but I
really feel strongly about this. No more Martha
Stewart pressure to achieve a level of gift
wrapping that does not please me and causes me
HUGE STRESS.
What is your issue?
- Making meals with the perfect wine sauce
- Buying accessories that are the latest style
- Buying the wine for the dinner to impress everyone
- Choosing a gift for your mom when your best friend always knows better than you
- Going to a jewelry store alone and not understanding "carrots" and brightness of the diamonds
- Doing the holiday greeting card list when you really don't know half of the people anyway
You know what? It does not matter
what it is that is not your strength or interest. Ask
someone else to do it or don't do it at all. You have
the right to not stress about details that do not
interest you or make the season memorable for you.
You don't have to be nasty about saying no, just say
"no". Then offer to do something that the other
people aren't particularly good at and help them out.
Some of us just want to skip the
entire holiday season. That, I would not recommend.
There is so much value in just observing what makes
other people happy. It is just amazing to me what
pleases people - it does not cause stress, but joy and
fulfillment. Notice that and do it for yourself.
A business colleague of mine has kept
her list of people receiving holiday cards current for
the last 30 years. Her holiday card always has a
current picture of her taken somewhere in the world and
she has them out by the first week in December, WITH A
PERSONAL NOTE. This brings her joy. This may be
punishment for you. Don't do it then. I can't imagine
anyone wanting to receive a holiday card from you if
your sent it with resentment. Spend the money on a
massage instead.
2009 will be here shortly. What
habits do you have that you don't like that you can
practice on during this holiday season? Experts on
success from all over the world tell us to do what
pleases us and promotes our strengths and talents.
My sincere wish is that you discover
what those habits are so you can support and develop
them. Self love is not a new or novel idea. In fact, I
believe it is part of every religious and spiritual
doctrine.
Saying no, is really saying yes.
Cause and effect. Back and front. Crisis and cure.
Failure and success. It is a cycle. Develop your
success cycle today. Say no, so you can say yes.to YOU.
It is my sincere
prayer that PEACE and JOY be with You and Yours
this Holiday Season.
