Note from Natalie

Planning Makes it So!

What fun to spend time with our clients, one on one! Last week we had the privilege of meeting with two of our clients, each for an intense full-day of brainstorming, designing, developing and committing to a full Monty of strategies to break habits and build new successes. Kudos to the clients we met with in Kansas City.

When we are out of town on business, Jr. (Natalie Hoffmann) and I try to have some fun together (outside of work which is always fun). This trip we decided to visit Zona Rosa, a new section of shops and restaurants in Kansas City. On Thursday night, we listened to some great music on the square, ate the most wonderful flatbread pizza and slowly sank into our seats to relax.

Friday we met with a brand new client who is completely restructuring their organization. We were able to help them get clear about what is most important and to help them build a realistic, dynamic and profit-producing timeline for accomplishing their goals.

Then on Friday night, we let our brains relax and found a place that served the best Peach Cobbler ever. Not wanting to overindulge, we did appetizers instead of a full dinner so we could get to the cobbler faster!

Go to the NMA Blog for a short video about our trip to Kansas City.

Life is good! Kansas City, MO is a terrific place to have client meetings. We have great clients who traveled to see us at a central location near the international airport. Even our hotel and meeting room accommodations were perfect!

The article this week is a direct outgrowth of some of the strategies we used with our clients to build their next steps. It is our pleasure to provide this simple roadmap for your use.

To your ultimate and immediate success,

Thinking, Hoping and Praying, then Planning

By: Natalie R. Manor, CEO

I have a quote card in my wallet that I cut out of the Forbes magazine in 1986, the year I started my business. The words of wisdom on this card have saved me many times from quitting. It is yellowed, taped and tattered. Age has not diminished the power of the message though. It is written by B.C. Forbes himself:

“History is full of instances where victory instead of defeat would have resulted by battling only a little longer. Many need to be reminded of this. Any weakling can surrender; any coward can give up…To succeed, we must have the will to succeed,
we must have the stamina, determination, backbone, perseverance, self-reliance, faith. Let us grit our teeth and heroically resolve to keep on keeping on. Triumph often is nearest when defeat seems inescapable.”

What I have learned over the years that I would add to this well worn quote, is that we need to have clearly defined outcomes/goals that we are working toward so we will know when we reach them…or not.

Nothing happens without some thought…be it a dream, a goal or a desire. The charge that we get from considering to do the impossible – that it had never been done before or as well as we are going to do it – builds our desire to define the outcome and goal.

The reaching of a goal requires a very simple structure:

  1. Thinking: Allowing ourselves to think big, dream big, feel big and powerful.
  2. Brainstorming: Developing the details of the impossible and then designing from what you learn.
  3. Design and Develop: Putting the details into writing so they are real for you and in a logical sequence so they can be accomplished systematically.
  4. Desire and Execution: Feeling and acknowledging your success even as it is happening and completing the details faithfully.
  5. Measurements and Faith: Tracking the results, details, steps, and believing, really believing in every second and every step, no matter the evidence to the contrary.

I decided to find out how many recorded books there are on “Success”. Did you know that there are 128,000 books written about how to become successful? So why aren’t all of us more successful?

What is it that we all need in order to take steps that seem so much bigger than we are; bigger than we deserve; bigger than we can achieve?

I believe you need to believe the “what if” that shows up in our heads.

  • What if I could…
  • What if I was…
  • What if there were more…
  • What if the world, people, my family, my boss, my partner was…

It is ok to ask all of those “what if…?” questions. Just make sure that after you ask the question, you listen for the answer. There is always an answer coming to you right inside your own heart and mind. We are the sum total of billions of people before us that provided the path for us to explore our successes.

If we could only believe how truly magnificent we are; how smart and wondrous our brains; how absolutely limitless the ideas we can produce with one afternoon of feet up on a nice spot allowing our brilliant brain to just wander through the canals of our mind and heart.

Our clients and colleagues alike are concerned with having so little time and constant people issues. You only get 24 hours in your day. No more and no less. How much of that time have you allocated to your delightful brilliance? You have not run out of anything except the ability to let go long enough to allow your totally delightful self to explore “what if…?”.
